A wet Bristol wedding

As a Bristol wedding photographer, I am very used to photographing weddings in all types of weather. Richard and Amy got married at Coombe Lodge and like most couples, would have been hoping for a lovely sunny day. As you can see from their wedding photographs, their day was wet from start to finish. Did this stop the fun, no, did the rain mean we were unable to get some amazing wedding photographs, well I hope you agree, no it did not.

A wet start to the day
So as always, I turned up nice and early. After chatting with the staff from Coombe lodge about the running order of the day, I made my way upstairs to meet up with Amy, the bridesmaids. My first job is to reassure the bridal party that the rain will not spoil the day. Some brides can be a little stressed when they wake up on their wedding day, to find it raining. Luckily Amy was very chilled, it would take a lot more than a little rain to spoil her day. After getting some photographs of them all getting ready, I made my way downstairs to meet up with Richard the groom. His first thought was “ how’s Amy” I reassured him she was relaxed and not worried about the weather, just looking forward to becoming his wife.

The Wedding
If you have not been to Coombe Lodge, it is a wonderful place to get married. The mansion has some wonderful gardens with fantastic views over the lakes of Blagdon. All of which, we would not get to see due to the constant rain. At some venues, this can be a challenge but not at Coombe Lodge. As you can see from the wedding photographs the venue is equally stunning inside. Another great feature is the size and amount of rooms within the mansion. This allows me to take the photographs in a variety of settings, giving the bride and groom a varied set of photographs. This includes lots of images that look like they are outside. In fact, the couple and their guests stayed dry. The same can not be said for me, I got soaked but that’s ok it was worth it.

The wedding photographs
As you can see from the images I was able to get the all-important group photographs inside in the warm. Once the group photographs had been done it was time to take a walk around the venue. As we went, I photographed the bride and groom in the number of different settings. Soon it was time for the meal, which was followed by the speeches.

Into the evening
As night fell, this gave me the opportunity to get some more photographs with a different look from the ones we had taken earlier in the day. As the evening approached the sky went from white cloud to the dark black of night. It is during this charge of light, the sky goes a magical dark blue. It only lasts around 20 minutes so I have to work fast. The resulting photographs look stunning, almost as if they had a beautiful sunny day. When in fact it was still raining hard. After photographing the evening guests arriving and some of the dancing it was time for me to say my goodbyes. A wonderful wedding, with a stunning bride and groom. Made all the better by their welcoming friends and family.
